Day By Day

The Week, Planned Around IPW

The official IPW schedule is shown in grey. The gold windows are yours — and under each one is what we'd do with it.

Saturday · May 1

Arrival Day

Nothing on the IPW calendar yet. Land, drop the bags, and let the city introduce itself.

  1. All day

Arrivals and your first evening in New Orleans

    Your time

What we'd do with it

  • Get your bearings in the Quarter

Jackson Square, the galleries on Royal Street, and the river at Woldenberg Park — about an hour on foot, and the Riverfront streetcar brings you back to the hall.

  • Dinner four blocks from the hall

Cochon, Pêche, Emeril's and Meril all sit on Tchoupitoulas and Magazine within half a mile; book ahead for a Saturday.

  • Frenchmen Street after dark

A dozen live-music rooms in three blocks, most with no cover early in the evening.

Sunday · May 2

Badge Pick-Up Opens

Registration opens at the Convention Center. Buyers are out on Destination Experiences; everyone else has the day.

    Your time

What we'd do with it

  • Badge first, then the WWII Museum

The National WWII Museum is a seven-minute walk up Magazine Street; give it a half day if you can.

  • The Julia Street galleries

The Warehouse District's art galleries line the 300–600 blocks of Julia Street, two blocks from the hall.

  • An open evening, so eat well

The CBD and the Quarter are both a short walk; ask the concierge for a table if the obvious places are full.

What we'd do with it

The St. Charles line from Canal Street runs past the Garden District's mansions to Magazine Street's shops; allow a slow two hours.

  • If you're bound for the press brunch

The Audubon Tea Room is six miles uptown by the zoo; allow 25 minutes by car, and the St. Charles streetcar gets you most of the way.

  • The Superdome is a walk

The Opening Event is about 15 minutes on foot from the hall along Poydras Street — no need for a car.

    Your time

What we'd do with it

  • Coffee between appointments

Fulton Street, one block from the hall, has the nearest cafés and a quiet place to take a call.

  • An evening that doesn't need planning

A ghost walk through the Quarter or an hour at the distillery are the easy ones — both start after the hall closes.

  • Dinner reservations

The good tables go early in show week; tell the concierge the night and the size of your party and we'll find one.

Wednesday · May 5

    Offsite
  4. Afternoon and evening

Free afternoon for anyone not on the offsite program, then an open evening

    Your time

What we'd do with it

  • Two museums, two blocks away

The Ogden Museum of Southern Art and the Contemporary Arts Center face each other on Camp Street, five minutes from the hall.

  • The Garden District on foot

Take the St. Charles streetcar to Washington Avenue and wander the blocks of mansions and live oaks around Lafayette Cemetery No. 1.

  • The other open evening

    Your time
  5. 7 – 10 PM

    Closing Event

    River City Venues

    Offsite

What we'd do with it

  • The Closing Event is next door

River City Venues sits beside Mardi Gras World at 1380 Port of New Orleans Place, a ten-minute walk downriver from the hall.

  • Two hours to fill

A drink on the river at the Riverwalk, or the Mardi Gras World float den next to the venue, fits between the hall closing and the party.

Friday · May 7

Departure Day

Flying out late, or staying the weekend? This is the day for the trips that need a whole morning.

  1. All day

IPW is over — the city isn't

    Your time

What we'd do with it

  • The swamp or the River Road

A swamp tour needs a morning and the plantations need the day; both collect you downtown and the strip below has them.

  • Getting to the airport

Taxis from downtown to MSY are a flat $36 for one or two passengers ($15 each for three or more), about 25–40 minutes depending on traffic.

  • A last coffee in the Quarter

Café du Monde and its neighbours on Decatur Street open early; beignets and a chicory coffee are a 20-minute walk or one streetcar ride away.

Official schedule per ipw.com, read November 2026. Times may change before the show; the IPW app has the final word.

Near The Convention Center

What's Within A Walk

The hall sits where the Warehouse District meets the river. Everything pinned here is a short walk or one streetcar stop from the show floor — plus the IPW venues that aren't.

Getting Around

From The Convention Center

Most of what's on this page is within a walk or one streetcar ride of the hall.

On Foot

The Warehouse and Arts District, the National WWII Museum and the Riverwalk are a few blocks away. Canal Street is about 20 minutes on foot along the river, and Jackson Square about 30.

By Streetcar

The Riverfront line stops at Julia Street outside the Convention Center and runs to the French Market, daily from 6 AM to midnight, every 15–20 minutes. For the Garden District, pick up the St. Charles line at Canal Street. Pay in the Le Pass app or with exact change.

Airport & Taxis

Louis Armstrong International (MSY) is 15 miles west, 25–40 minutes by car. Taxis to downtown are a flat $36 for one or two passengers and $15 each for three or more; rideshare pickups are on the first floor of the airport garage.
